Anne's sisters are visiting with us bringing loads of laughs and fun. We're watching movies, playing games, and sharing fun food. Their visits are always a blast! In the photo are Anne, her sister Hope, and her sister Alice.

eighteen yearseighteen years

Anne and I will have our eighteenth wedding anniversary later this month. During the first ten years of our marriage, we attended marriage retreats each year. At some point life became too busy (too expensive?) for our ritual getaways; they fell by the wayside. This past weekend we joined many other couples from our church for a weekend away.

christmas in februarychristmas in february

Anne and I spent last weekend in the foothills of the Cascade mountains. I had arranged for a weekend getaway for two as her Christmas present this year. Our destination was the Salish Lodge. The lodge is located next to the 276-foot Snoqualmie Falls. A Salish word meaning "moon," the name Snoqualmie reflects its valley's native inhabitants as they were known as "the people of the moon." We arrived on Saturday afternoon to find a room decked-out in rose petals and campaign glasses.

copy catcopy cat

Cats always seem to find interesting places to nap. Raincheck has started napping on top of our inkjet copier / printer in our home office. Anne was the first to call him, "the copy cat." He only seems mildly disturbed when the printer begins thrashing around as it prints a document...

will it never end?will it never end?

It's snowing again in Seattle. We've been swimming in ice and snow for a week this time. One of the lovely features of Seattle is that it rarely snows; the snow is usually gone in 24 hours. This winter we've had multiple snow storms that lasted for days. The temperatures have been unusually cold, often 15 to 20 degrees below normal. The photo is from the Seattle Times.

mr. coneheadmr. conehead

Here's Rowdy doing his impersonation of Mr. Conehead; if you aren't familiar with Saturday Night Live (from the 70's), then Mr. Conehead won't mean anything! UPDATE: February 13, 2007 Rowdy's cone has been removed! We've had to take him back to the vet several times to work on his wound, but he is healing. We still have to keep a loose bandage on his boo-boo, but it is slowly closing up.

merry christmas!merry christmas!

To our family and friends, wherever you are, Merry Christmas!By the way - you can recap much of our year's activities in my blog! That will keep me from sending out the much dreaded "Year in Review" e-mail!

all i want for christmas...all i want for christmas...

This month I've had two colds, in rapid succession, followed by a root canal today. A little health break doesn’t seem like too much to ask for! Three weeks of consistent blech! The rest of the family has been dodging the bullet so far. Perhaps I’ll be healthy for the holidays! Okay, enough of the pity party, back to our regular programming… I feel better already!

Seattle doesn't get much snowy, icy weather - but we've got it now. This morning the temperature is 20 degrees in Edmonds. Last night, the Seahawks beat Green Bay - in Seattle - in the snow. They should have been called the Snowhawks.
The driveway to our house is about 90 feet long; it has a pretty steep grade from the front of the house up to the street. This morning it is a sheet of ice.
