The bulb in my Kawasaki Vulcan Drifter 1500 motorcycle headlight is approaching nine years old and has been fading for a while. It has been putting off a dim, yellow light that is hardly noticeable on reflective signs. Any motorcyclist will tell you that being seen is paramount for safe riding. Today I installed a new bulb - the
PIAA Xtreme White Plus.

Even during the daytime (in the garage) I could tell there is a vast difference between the stock bulb and the new PIAA bulb. They consume the same wattage, however the PIAA provides far more light which is closer to daylight (4000 k) that the stock bulb. I'm eager to see what this bulb does for me at night. Marketing non-sense aside, the use of rare gases in bulbs has advanced quite a bit in the past ten years, so a brighter bulb (on the same power) isn't a big surprise. PIAA claims to have made these improvements without adversely effecting the lifespan of the bulb; we'll see!
As far as the brightness goes, I only have a subject test with my own eyes. As compared to the nine-year old stock bulb, the new PIAA bulb is "ouch-ouch-ouch" bright. If you put these in your vehicle, make sure they are aimed correctly and don't look at them when they're turned on.
